Sylvan Hills and Bluebonnet Yard Piping Project

Recently, the City of Alamo Heights installed new water meter boxes in the front of each residence throughout the Sylvan Hills and Bluebonnet neighborhoods. Starting this August, yard piping will be necessary to create a new underground water service line connecting the front-yard water meter box to the home’s existing water line which is currently behind your house.

This work follows the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) mandates and allows the City to improve accessibility, emergency response, and long-term service.

When to Expect Service:

Alamo Heights and Abelar Inc. will begin yard piping this August and expect the entire project to be completed within 4-6 months, with approximately 5 residences serviced each business day.

Approximately one week before service date, our crew will leave a door hanger indicating the service date. Please pay attention to your door.

What to Expect if You are Undergoing Yard Piping Service:

Residents undergoing yard piping do not need to be home during the service, but our team will need access to yards, so please plan to keep pets inside and gates unlocked on your service date. We advise residents to adjust the use of your appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines to account for the temporary water shut-off while the new connection is made.

The yard piping process involves an underground boring method to minimize disturbance to yards. In most cases, workers will dig one small entry pit near the meter box typically in your front yard near the street and one small exit pit near the water line in the rear. The City is dedicated to repairing the entry and exit sites.
