Environmental Health

As per Chapter 8 of the Alamo Heights City Code all food establishments, including temporary establishments are required to apply for a permit. These establishments include restaurants, grocery stores, school cafeterias, day-care centers, and any place which prepares or sells food items.

The City of Alamo Heights’ Public Works Department conducts inspections of all food service establishments in the city. Inspections are unannounced and are conducted by the City Health Inspector. During routine inspections, the health inspector evaluates food workers’ practices, including the manner in which they receive and store food, how they process food and the temperatures at which they cook, hold, serve, store and reheat food.
