Mission Statement
The Public Works Department is committed to providing high quality, well planned, environmentally responsible, cost effective infrastructure and services to promote public health, personal safety, transportation, economic growth and civic vitality.
Program Information
The Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s street and drainage infrastructure, traffic signals, public signage, park areas and facilities; and for the provision of solid waste services to its customers.
The Utilities Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution and sanitary sewer systems; and for the provision of water and sewer services to its customers.

New Trash Bins Coming November 2025
The City of Alamo Heights is upgrading to new standardized wheeled trash bins for all residents beginning in November 2025. These durable bins provide more capacity, easier movement, and faster, cleaner collection for the community. Public Works staff will deliver bins directly to each home at no cost—residents west of Broadway will receive theirs Nov. 10 – Dec. 8, and those east of Broadway Dec. 8 – Dec. 30. Your regular trash pickup day will not change. A grace period will remain in effect through February 6, 2026, allowing residents to continue using their old containers until that date, when only the new bins will be collected.
Bins will not be delivered on holidays, including Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, or Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
