City adopts Comprehensive Plan at May 26th City Council Meeting.
"What is a Dog Park?"

The Dog Park Design Workshop held on Saturday, Feb. 27 was a great success. Larry Clark, a landscape architect with Bender Wells Clark Design, facilitated the workshop by first giving a presentation to answer the question, “What is a dog park?”, which was then followed by an information gathering session where participants provided feedback about what they would want to see in a City of Alamo Heights Dog Park.
The next step is developing a conceptual plan for the park based on the public input given at the meeting. Contact Brian Chandler, Community Development Director at 832-2250 if you have any questions or want to provide additional feedback.
Alamo Heights Leader in Pervious Concrete

The City needed to replace an old asphalt driveway in front of the fire apparatus bay adjacent to the Council Chambers and the Cement Council of Texas was looking for a project to demonstrate the application of pervious concrete.
On March 4 the Cement Council of Texas donated the concrete and contractor for the demonstration project. Over 125 people gathered to learn about the advantages of using this new type of concrete. Using pervious concrete assists in reducing stormwater run-off and flooding while improving the quality of recharge water and run-off.
Demonstrations of permeability are available upon request contact Public Works at 882-1518.

Community Gardening, Anyone?

A desire to preserve the natural beauty of Alamo Heights while promoting sustainability was a prevalent goal that developed from 2009 Comprehensive Plan meetings. An exciting concept that many residents were interested in exploring was the creation of a community garden.
The vision is as diverse as each community.
A successful garden requires sun, water, a plot at least 20’ x 50’ and at least five non-related people who are committed to maintaining and planting the garden, says Angela Hartsell, Community Gardens Manager for San Antonio’s Green Spaces Alliance.
If you are interested in helping to start a community garden, contact Brian Chandler, AH community development director at 832-2250.
