Upgraded Water Meters Coming to Alamo Heights

All Alamo Heights Addresses to Receive a Smart Water Meter between October 2026 and January 2027
The City of Alamo Heights is excited to announce it will be upgrading its analog water meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters for all residents and businesses!
The upgraded meters increase accuracy and transparency, identify potential leaks, and allow individuals to make informed decisions about water conservation.
AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) water meters are highly accurate “smart” meters that use cellular signals to take meter reads and update water usage at the city’s daily scheduled intervals.

Easy-to-Read Data at Your Fingertips
Each Alamo Heights residence will be able to interact, monitor and make payment on their account via the same municipal online portal residents and businesses already use. Visit https://alamoheightstx.municipalonlinepayments.com/alamoheightstx/utilities and elect to create an account or sign in.
Installation Process
Every Alamo Heights address will receive a brand-new smart meter free of charge. Installation will be provided by the City of Alamo Heights Public Works Department and its contracted partners at DB Utility. The new smart meters will replace the analog meters located in the water meter box at the front of each property.
In September, our technicians will begin cleaning debris out of each water meter box to prepare for the meter installations. Each cleaning only takes a few minutes. Once this prep work is conducted, a door hanger will be placed to inform you of the expected water meter installation time period, which typically takes place approximately 2-3 weeks after the prep work.
Our technicians expect to install over 3,000 smart water meters between October 2026 and January 2027.
Installation is minimally invasive and takes approximately 15-30 minutes. You do not need to be home for installation. Once your new meter is installed, you will be notified via door hanger of how to access your new smart meter data through the customer portal.
