Programs

The City of Alamo Heights has many Community Service programs through the Police Department. As a City, we are aware of how important it is to have a strong positive relationship with the community and strive to provide many informative safety awareness programs.

S.A.I.N.T. Program

The Alamo Heights Police Department has launched a new community-wide crime prevention initiative through a program called Suspicious Activity Information Neighborhood Team (S.A.I.N.T.). The program provides an easy means of gathering information to report suspicious activities and is based on the idea that no one knows their neighborhoods better than the residents who live there.

Citizens' Emergency Service Academy

A ten-week program designed to provide citizens an understanding of the operation of the Alamo Heights Police and Fire Department. Presentations by Emergency Service personnel and guest speakers, facility tours, and police ride-alongs have proven to provided a great learning experience for past Citizens' Emergeny Service Academy participants. Emergency Services Youth Academy

A ten-week police services awareness course developed for students currently enrolled in the 9th through 12th grades. In addition to presentations by Emergency Service personnel and guest speakers, students get a chance to participate in a variety of hands-on activities, scenario training, and police ride-along.

Police and Fire Explorer Post

A "Learning for Life" career education program for young men and women age 14, who have completed the eighth grade, to 20 years of age. The Explorer Post's purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers learn the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationship and communities.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E)

A drug prevention education program designed to instill knowledge about drug abuse, the consequences of drug abuse, and skills for resisting peer pressure to experiment with drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products. The DARE program is taught to elementary and junior high school students in public and private schools.

Red Ribbon Week

A program offered to students to encourage a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives. The Community Resource Officer offers presentations, contests, and sponsors other anti-drug promotions to students in participating schools.

i-Safe

Provides awareness and knowledge to enable students and parents to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive, inappropriate, and unlawful online behavior. The Criminal Investigations Division offers both parent and student based presentations in-group settings in conjunction with school programs.

National Night Out

An annual event proven to be an effective and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for safer neighborhoods. Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils citizens participate in variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, and visits from police officers and firefighters.

The City of Alamo Heights hosts an Annual National Night Out Event at the City Complex from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the night of National Night Out. Residents are able to meet City staff and explore the Fire Truck, Ambulance and Police Car. Hot dogs, chips, sodas, goodie bags and much more are provided for both adults and children to enjoy.
