The Police Department is organized into the Office of the Chief of Police, the Patrol Operations Division, the Support Services Division, the Criminal Investigations Division, and the Emergency Services Center (police/fire/ambulance dispatch).
Commanded by the Patrol Lieutenant. There are three patrol shifts each having one sergeant supervisor and a number of patrol officers assigned to it. These officers provide policing services to the community, to include patrol, responding to calls for service, performing initial field investigations, traffic enforcement, and other public safety and service activities. In the spirit of proactive policing and to provide the best possible coverage, patrol activities utilize marked patrol units, a traffic enforcement vehicle, a low-profile crime interdiction vehicle, and bicycle patrol.
Commanded by an Administrative Sergeant who is primarily responsible for staff functions. Support Services consists of the Police Administrative Office, the Community Resource Officer, and the Emergency Service Center. The Administrative Sergeant is also responsible for the planning and research function, internal affairs, and public information functions.
Staffed by a Senior Administrative Assistant who provides support to all divisions within the Alamo Heights Police Department. The Police Administrative Office also issues parking permits, alarm permits and public copies of police reports.
Staffed by two Criminal Investigators. The Criminal Investigations Division provides follow-up investigation of offenses and incidents reported to the police. Investigators develop and maintain crime analysis reports and participate in crime intervention strategies when appropriate. Investigators are responsible for the evidence/property room as well as the disposition of all evidence and property in custody of the Police Department.
Staffed by one officer who serves as a public education officer and liaison with the residential and business communities. The Community Resource Officer is responsible for providing and/or coordinating community based projects and programs including residential crime prevention and business security, adult and youth citizen police academies, as well as other youth education and diversion programs (D.A.R.E.).
Staffed by one Communications Supervisor and eight dispatchers. The ESC is the first line of communications for citizens seeking emergency and non-emergency service responses to an unlimited variety of police, fire, and medical calls for service from citizens of Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and Olmos Park. The ESC is a 9-1-1 primary answering point for these cities on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
Staffed by an Animal Care Attendant who encourages responsible pet ownership through enforcement of state laws and local ordinances concerning the abatement of animal nuisances and humane animal care.
