The File of Life refrigerator magnet is a red vinyl packet containing a medical information card for each household member. Each card contains all the medical data emergency personnel need to begin treatment.
In addition to the refrigerator file you will also receive a smaller red vinyl packet containing the same medical information to keep either in a wallet or glove compartment of a vehicle. The medical cards lists the patients name, emergency medical contact, insurance policy, social security number, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgery, religion and health care proxy.
This program is designed to reduce preventable injuries in older adults.
Remembering When is centered around fire and fall prevention safety messages. The program can be delivered either in group presentations or home visits.
The program is designed to inform the home owner/renter of the dangers that may be unnoticed or need to be corrected to prevent fires or injuries. The home inspection process takes about 30 minutes to walk through the house and discuss any hazards that may be found. This program is a free service to ensure the safety of our valued citizen customers and appointments can be scheduled by calling the Fire Station.
The City of Alamo Heights has an ordinance requiring at least 1 operating smoke detector in every residence within the city but we recommend that there be one in every bedroom and that the batteries be changed once a year. The Alamo Heights Fire Department will install a smoke detector in your home and change your battery if you are unable to do so. Please contact us for more information or to schedule an appointment.
This annual fire safety and prevention campaign is conducted during the month of October for local schools, daycares, social groups, and includes tours of the fire station.
