The city operates three forms of solid waste programs - garbage, bulk trash and recycling. A fourth program, household hazardous waste, is operated through a grant to the Alamo Area Council of Governments and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Garbage cans must be no larger than 30 gallons, and the can with its contents should weigh no more than 40 pounds. Garbage cans must have two handles and a tight-fitting lid.
Garbage cans and other waste materials should be in the alley or at the curb by 7 a.m. the morning of your pickup, and all cans and other containers should be brought back onto the property that same day.
The city does not collect solid waste on certain established holidays. Please check the solid waste pickup calendar for the holiday schedule.
Brush in bundles no more than three feet long will be picked up on your regular garbage collection days. If you have furniture, appliances or other items too large for the regular trash pickup, call 882-1518 and schedule a special pickup.
Any demolition material, construction or remodeling debris and brush or limbs cut down by a contractor must be carried away by that contractor, since the city is responsible only for pickup of waste materials generated by residents themselves.
No hazardous materials may be set out with regular solid waste items. Hazardous materials include flammables, such as oils, mineral spirits and thinners; poisons, such as herbicides, insecticides and rat and mouse bait; cleaners and cleansers; swimming pool chemicals, such as muratic acid; all types of paint; pressurized (spray) containers; and "sharps," such as broken glass, hypodermic needles, sharp metals, razor blades and wire.
Bexar County operates a free program for hazardous waste pickup that is available one time per year at each address. Call 1-800-449-7587, Monday - Friday, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. to arrange for a date for curbside pickup.
